CASE PICKING

What is Case Picking?

In case picking, product is picked in full case or carton quantities from a variety of storage mediums: pallet positions, carton flow, and shelving. For most operations, the majority of faster movers are picked from pallet positions.

Medium to slow-moving products are generally picked from carton flow. Slow-moving products are picked from static shelving. When workers pick product, they typically pick the item to a pallet, cart or conveyor. As the picker travels the aisles selecting product, orders are grouped and sequenced for shipping.

Where Case Picking Is Used

Case picking is common in distribution centers serving retail or online stores. Third-party logistics (3PL) providers, big-box store suppliers, beer and liquor distributors, and many other businesses devote a significant portion of their warehouse to case picking.

However, case picking operations face a major challenge– with all those cartons comes an ever-growing footprint.

  • How can distributors ensure a fast, accurate case pick that meets customer expectations without surrendering large portions of warehouse or distribution center space to case storage?
  • And how can distributors alleviate the strain case picks place on workforces to keep both teams and customers happy?

For faster-moving products, UNEX manufactures a basic line of pallet conveyor that provides dynamic storage for pallets. Picking from a pallet is ideal for faster moving products because operators don’t have to double handle the product to load the product into shelving. They simply load the entire pallet as a location on the pick line.

Pallet Track

Pallet flow systems are essential for many material handling facilities, but choosing the best one for your operation can be confusing. Our engineers have developed high-quality, durable Pallet Track with rollers or wheel rails designed to optimize flow, increase flexibility, prioritize safety and more.
